The Healing Crisis: What is it and How do you Work With it?

So let’s talk about what a Healing Crisis looks like, shall we?

Some signs of a healing crisis include:

- Headaches and feeling nauseous

- Big emotions, like sadness or not caring

- Eating more or less

- Sleep issues - feeling really tired or not able to sleep

- Body aches and pains

- Diarrhea or weird bowel movements as your body gets rid of toxins

- Skin acting up with breakouts or swelling

- Feeling confused or unmotivated

This all means your body and mind are dealing with, processing, and letting go of problems inside - a detox of the soul.

So what IS a healing crisis, really?

A healing crisis is when you feel like you’ve just gone 5 rounds with Mike Tyson after anything from a healing session, therapy session, massage or even meditation.. It is definitely a “it’s going to get worse before it gets better” type of situation..

It can get as “bad” as feeling like you are depressed, and you might be frustrated feeling like you are going backwards rather than forwards. I am here to assure you that all is well. This is all temporary and you will soon see the fruits of the labor that healing can be.

The body never lies and it definitely keeps score so all those emotions that you have kept bottled up and pushed down are now coming up so that they can release. This is what causes a spiritual healing crisis. Though I do my level best NOT to retraumatise when I am working with a client, there are times and traumas that are more challenging to move. When these emotions get stirred up you may feel the past all over again. This, too, is temporary. This can be a really good sign, as well, as emotions are unverbalised thought. They need to be processed (yes, that means FEELING them) in order to release them. You have to FEEL to heal.

A healing crisis can dredge up your deepest most profound pain. At its worst it can even trigger an existential crisis of sorts.. You may even ask very deep (and possibly even disturbing) questions during a spiritual healing crisis such as, “why am I here? Why is anyone here? What’s the point of life?”

There are different levels of a spiritual healing crisis that you may experience, and each session will be different. After one session you may feel perfectly fine and after another one, you may feel depressed.

It is also possible to feel high emotions and be in total bliss after a healing. Your body and emotions are reacting in the best way they can to heal you.

Understanding the Healing Crisis Phenomenon

A healing crisis can leave you questioning your sanity, yet it is a positive indicator of effective energy therapy. When you’re treated by an energy healer or therapist, it's like stirring up old, ignored emotions within. Just as these emotions emerge at the surface, they're ready to be addressed and released - a process that only initiates when you're prepared to confront them. You have to feel to heal.

In this moment of healing, what you're truly experiencing is a past emotions coming up to be processed and cleared. Supported by a healing practitioner, you gain the courage to face these feelings and, along with your innermost self, you get to free yourself from their grasp.

Habits of feeling a certain way can mask the pain of emotions buried for years, to the point where it all seems normal. A healing treatment challenges this norm by encouraging the release of such emotions, which introduces a different, more positive energy within. This change is akin to the body's response during a detox, experiencing symptoms as it clears out toxins.

Your sense of self or ego might resist this change, troubled by the unfamiliar sensation of lighter energy. At its core, the healing crisis is an emotional purge, a necessary acknowledgment and experience of emotions to find relief and clarity. The process might be intense and bewildering, but crossing this threshold brings with it a renewed sense of liberation and well-being.

How Long Does a Healing Crisis Last?

A healing crisis generally starts right after a treatment and can last up to 2 weeks. Often the most powerful energies will be with you immediately after and stay with you for the next 1-3 days. After that, they should gradually subside. Although there are always exceptions.

Navigating Your Spiritual Healing Crisis with Grace and Wisdom

  • Seek Guidance from Your Healer

Reach out to your healer promptly in the event of an intensified healing crisis. With their wealth of experience and historical knowledge of assisting others on similar journeys, they stand ready to provide insightful counsel and strategies to adeptly guide you through the process.

  • Prioritize Restorative Rest

Embrace rest as a paramount practice. In the quiet aftermath of healing, your energetic blueprint is actively undergoing a transformation — realigning and cleansing itself. Honor this powerful internal activity by allowing your body ample time to rejuvenate during this dynamic period.

  • Cultivate Self-compassion

Treat yourself with tenderness and understanding. Post-healing sensitivity may heighten emotional responses. Navigate this time with care, fostering a nurturing, non-critical attitude towards your evolving emotional landscape.

  • Hydration is Key

Amplify your healing by drinking abundant water. This simple act plays an essential role in alleviating symptoms, removing residual toxins, and revitalizing your cells. Remain hydrated to mitigate the intensity of potential discomfort like headaches or muscle soreness.

  • The Therapeutic Power of Epsom Salts

Incorporate Epsom salt baths into your post-healing practice. The soothing presence of magnesium relieves muscular tension, while the salts enhance detoxification, further purifying your physical being.

  • Nourish with Lightness

In the wake of releasing dense energies, your inclination may steer away from heavy meals. Opt for lighter fare to align with the energetic clearing underway. This choice ensures that the digestive process does not detract from the essential work of energetic purification.

  • Abstain from Alcohol Post-Healing

Heed the advice of healing professionals who caution against the consumption of alcohol on the day of your spiritual treatment. Abstinence helps sustain the integrity of your healing process, particularly during the heightened vulnerability of a crisis.

  • Process Your Emotional Tapestry

Give yourself permission to fully experience the emotional surges that accompany a healing crisis. Welcome the discomfort of these emotions as a signal of their release, paving the way for your spiritual liberation.

  • Journal Your Evolution

Document your healing odyssey through journaling. This reflective practice serves as a compass, enabling you to revisit and reinterpret your experiences with clarity and connect your personal revelations, all while facilitating emotional release.

  • Sacred Solitude

Reserve time for solitude as it is instrumental in processing the surge of emotions post-healing. Distraction-free introspection allows you to deeply engage with the transformative experience, ensuring authenticity and depth in your emotional and spiritual introspection.

Final Thoughts- Spiritual Healing Crisis

Enduring a healing crisis heralds the essential release of stagnant and toxic emotions, heralding a forthcoming expansion of your life's horizon. As you transcend these barriers, your consciousness elevates, allowing for profound alterations in your state of being. A spiritual healing crisis, rather than indicating an anomaly, is a testament to substantial progress in your emotional and physical realms. Anticipate emerging from this metamorphosis rejuvenated and unburdened, primed to step into a reality of heightened awareness and enlightenment.
